Fantôme Hiver Saison
So, this is Fantôme’s “winter” saison, but I’ve been having a difficult time finding Fantôme beers, so I’m hailing it the best saison I’ve had in a summer filled with saisons. This has lots of carbonation and lemony tartness up front, a bit of pepper, some malt mellowing that out, and a dry finish. On the whole, it’s a really balanced and drinkable brew even though there’s a lot going on in each sip. I’m not sure what’s wintery about it, except that an 8% ABV glass is sure to put roses in your cheeks.

Jolly Pumpkin Luciernaga on tap at the Filling Station. This is a good one—grassy smell, coriander, lemon, and hops taste, with just a little sourness in the mix. It’s got a nice balance between Gran Cru and Saison styles. It’s seasonal, so grab a bottle if you see it out there.

Saint Somewhere Saison Athene. Whoa, this one’s a bit unusual. Really dry, tart, peppery and herbal with tons of carbonation. Refreshing, yet with a higher ABV than your standard saision. Watch out for that rocketing cork if it’s not totally chilled.

OK, Anchor Steam is my default suburban gas station beer but should it really be on the cover? (Taken with Instagram)

Wostyntje, a dark blond Belgian ale brewed with mustard seeds. Doesn’t taste as weird as it sounds. Which may be a good thing. #beer (Taken with instagram)
